This Crazy Little Thing Called Exams!

Hey Navalites,

It’s been a while but hey lets make our blog rock again. Im sure around the corner is this little event we like to call the exams. So here is out team at AKLTG wishing you all the best and do rock it down cos we believe all of you can do it! Here are some tips for you as you go on this journey of conquering this pink elephant we all love to hate-the MID YEARS!

EXAMINATION TIPS

1) Study one chapter. Ask your friend study the other. And another friend another. Then discuss and compare notes! This way you no need to study everything and you get more value!

2) The 80-20 Principle. 80 PER CENT of your notes is useless words like i and the and you and me. 20 is important words like CHEMICAL REACTION or ACIDIC or STAMFORD RAFFLES. Pick out the keywords and remember them!

3) Do breathing exercises. Inhale 5 seconds and inhale the good things in life. Exhale 5 seconds and exhale the negative stuff. Do it 10 times every morning.

4) Do success claps. The more you clap the more successful you’ll be. Okay this is just an energizer to keep you motivated!

5) The Principles of Memory. Know how to make your notes more effective? Make your notes colourful and full of pictures-draw funny pictures even! Link your keypoints together in a funny story like the 30 word list! YOU WILL REMEMBER BETTER!

6) Use 10 minutes each time to TEXT your FRIENDS or play with your cat. Make sure these breaks last only 10 minutes. Remember DISCIPLINE is SOMETHING YOU DONT LIKE but REAP FUTURE REWARDS! So just set 10 minutes each time and obey the clock! Use this technique especially when your mind wanders cos when you WORK you WORK, when you PLAY you PLAY. THE 2 DONT MIX~!

7) Give 100 per cent. This might mean your day will look like this

EARLY MORNING – 10 PER CENT

LATE MORNING – 20 PER CENT

EARLY AFTERNOON – 0 PER CENT

LATE AFTERNOON -20 PER CENT

EARLY NIGHT -10 PER CENT

LATE NIGHT-40 PER CENT

Know when you energy is the highest and maximise it!!! Remember your mind and body is one. So know how to mix the 2 to produce incredible results!

8) Make INSPIRATIONAL POSTERS using DRAWING BLOCKS to MOTIVATE YOU! Paste it all around your room, places you can see-maybe the toilet even!

9) IF I CANT THEN I MUST. This is the law of de-procrastination. It is the very things that you dont want to do that you MUST DO NOW! Like learning and practising quadratic equations lah or chemistry formulas!

10) When life gets shaky, FOCUS ON YOUR OUTCOME.

150409.Race of Our Lives!

The 15th of April was a significant and meaningful day for us. It represented a day when we ran the race of our lives. It was a race around Singapore looking for 7 checkpoints altogether. Only when we found our next checkpoint were we given the clue card to find the next one. And we had limited transport!

So it started off way early in the morning when the whole cohort-LOVE 4/1 and 4/2 assembled in the PARADE SQUARE. The first challenge was the suicide runs-each group had to finish 15 and then we set off to find our maps and clues to head to the first checkpoint-SEMBAWANG PARK!

Then we had to proceed on to MAC RITCHIE RESERVOIR to find the memorial tomb of LIM BO SENG. And then the rain poured on us…but many of us persevered some walking in the rain just to reach MacRitchie on time!

By this time we were already very stretched and tired but it was only the encouragement of our friends, our coaches and even our teachers that we persevered and pushed on even though some of us had blisters, leg cramp and pain. It was only in our mind! Stretching ourselves made us feel proud of ourselves and make the IMPOSSIBLE POSSIBLE!

For each station we had a target timing to meet. Each of us pushed ourselves to meet that timing. The most stretching leg of the race was the long walk to GAMBAS. We forced our tired legs to go…the mind over the body. And through sheer determination, encouragement and belief, we did it. And were treated to a nice water massage at the SEMBAWANG HOT SPRING!

And onward we went to the STADIUM-our last checkpoint. All of us made it there through challenging ourselves beyond our limits and hanging on to one another to the end. We did it together as a team. And each team cheered for one another all the way to the STADIUM! We had a nice treat of spaghetti and fried dory with jelly…Then it was time for our final challenge…the mental and physical challenge.

MENTAL : solve the puzzle and put the pages of the book together in running order. Each page is connected to one another. Each page is either a zoomed in picture of the previous one or a zoomed out image.

PHYSICAL : The physical challenge was to complete success claps till the mental challenge was solved!

Stretching ourselves mentally as well!:)

It was very stretching because now more than ever we had to work together as a team. If the ones who attempted the mental challenge took it lightly, we will be letting down the participants doing the physical ones! Each of us has a talent. We need to work with each other’s strengths to meet a common objective!

And finally we did it. After 970 success claps and almost an hour doing it! It has been a real struggle for many of us but yet again we proved to ourselves that we could do it together if we believed enough!

So the last challenge we had was to run back to school-and we had one MRT ride to help us! So one by one we had to join up our teams and made this meaningful run back to school. Many of us gave it our best even though we were so tired and we encouraged each other all the way to the finish line! The satisfaction when we saw our school gate was AWESOME. We did it.

So from the RACE it was a good example that we were better than we thought we are. We could achieve the impossibek because in IMPOSSIBLE is the words : i m possible. Whatever we believe we can achieve. And together as friends we encouraged and inspired one another to the finish line! And in the end what mattered was not who came in first, it was the times we had together, the struggles we face together and the fact that we all did it. There was pure satisfaction and meaning in just that. We could do it for this camp, so could we do it for any challenge in life now…

Start of Something New!

Today is the first day of camp. On this day we went through a series of team building and stretching activities that made us work together as a team. It also taught us to give 100 per cent in whatever that we do. Whatever we do we do it excellently. Some of the activities were really tough, just like the suicides and the success claps but we learnt to persevere and at last, we are satisfied with our effort and what we have achieved!

It was a fun and tiring day, and we have learnt a thing or two about having control and taking responsibility of our actions in our lives! So today we were left with COACH Cloud emphasizing us to love ourselves first and accept ourselves for who we are and Coach Ridtz emphasizing the importance of us responding the right way to any challenges that may come our way…
